Our newest maritime book is W. H. Bunting's Live Yankees: The Sewalls and Their Ships. For nearly a century, the Sewalls built and managed a fleet of a hundred vessels from the City of Ships-Bath, Maine. The Sewall Family Records occupy some 315 linear feet of shelf space at the Maine Maritime Museum and from this rich resource Bunting tells their story: the businessmen who personified the term "live yankee" and the captains (some capable and steadfast, others daring or brutal) who sailed their ships to ports around the world. Richly illustrated with a treasure-trove of photographs, this is a fascinating story.
You'll find a rich collection of maritime books on these Ships, Boats & Canoes pages, but many of our "Maine & New England" books also cover maritime topics, so please browse those pages, too.
